Relax. Let the serene hills of the rolling Tuscan countryside wash over you, gently soothing your senses. The meandering breeze caresses your skin, laden with an intoxicating mix of aromas: local vineyards, olive groves, rustic wheat fields and the subtle scent of jasmine. As you look across the surrounding scenery towards the ancient Etruscan town of Volterra, your mind wanders into times long past; you feel the deep sense of contentment and repose that the land has bestowed upon people for centries. Within this sanctuary, we are offering an ideal house for your holiday let: nestled into the hilltop village of Orciatico at 300m above sea level, you will have a spectacular view over the valley with it’s ever changing character – from the mystical Nebbio that enchants the landscape in the early morning, to hills with crimson gilt summits at sunset.
Being immersed in this idyllic retreat, you’ll soon forget that you are less than an hour’s drive to Pisa and it’s airport; Volterra – a living gateway into history – sits proud on the hilltop at the other side of the valley; Lajatico – the hometown of Andrea Borcelli – is only a short drive away as are San Gimignano, Montecatini Val di Cecina, and Pontedera. About an hour and a half’s drive away are famous attractions such as Firenze – Florence; Livorno and the southern Versilia coastal beach resorts such as Viareggio and Torre di Lago Puccini; the UNESCO city centre of Siena with it’s absolutely breathtaking Duomo; the leaning tower of Pisa; and the ancient walled city of Lucca with it’s medieval towers aside it’s almost one hundred churches. If however you fancy taking it easy then the luxurious swimming pool is only fifty yards away from the house.
Oriactico itself is a endearing little village with the local people being both welcoming and friendly. There is a local shop open most days where your essential provisions can be found. And although your Italian phrasebook is a mandatory item, the people are generally more than happy to assist with the language. There is a charming – and very intimate restaurant – that serves local seasonal produce; if you fancy a taste of genuine Italian cuisine, you need look no further. If you fancy a glass of local wine, the village cafe/bar is perfect.
The house itself can sleep up to six people and has excellent amenities such as a lcd flatscreen television in the living space and hob, microwave, washing machine, refrigerator, toaster, coffee maker, etc in the kitchen; this is complimented by a balcony on both the master and guest bedrooms – just imagine relaxing on a Summer’s eve with a book and a glass of the local wine, looking across to the spellbinding vista of lights from the towns on the surrounding hills. There is an intimate garden to the rear of the house and a terrace to the front of the house, which is perfect for having dinner in the evening.
